Visa and Safaricom hosted a “Game Iko On” Semi-Final Watch Party, bringing together customers, partners and football fans to celebrate their partnership and also promote the M-Pesa GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card.
Developed by Visa and Safaricom, the card allows M-Pesa users to make secure international online payments directly from their M-Pesa wallet through the Visa global payments network.
The event marked the culmination of the “Game Iko On” campaign, which has combined the excitement of football with digital payments to educate consumers on the convenience, security and accessibility of the M-Pesa GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card.
“Football has a unique ability to bring people together, and through the Game Iko On campaign we have been able to combine that passion with practical payment solutions that empower consumers,” said Chad Pollock, Vice President and General Manager, Visa East Africa. “Our collaboration is helping more Kenyans embrace secure and seamless digital payments while creating meaningful experiences around one of the world’s biggest sporting events.”
Safaricom said the partnership demonstrates how digital financial services can be integrated into everyday experiences while expanding access to the digital economy.
“Today’s FIFA World Cup watch party is more than an opportunity for football fans to come together and enjoy a world-class sporting spectacle,” said Esther Waititu, Chief Financial Services Officer at Safaricom PLC. “Through products and services such as My OneApp and M-Pesa GlobalPay, we are empowering individuals and businesses with convenient payment options that simplify everyday transactions and connect them to the digital economy.”
Customers can activate the M-Pesa GlobalPay Virtual Visa Card through the MyOneApp to make secure international online payments.
